Different types of fibers are use in socks for different reasons. Look at the table below for the differences.
Type | Reason Used | Uses |
Cotton | Absorbency, Hand | All types of socks |
Nylon | Gives bulk, strength, stretch | Used as a plating yarn for socks, sheer hosiery |
Acrylic | Wicking action moves moisture away from foot, gives bulk | Used particularly in sport socks |
Wool | Gives warmth, absorbs moisture | Used in winter socks, usually blended |
Elastic | Gives stretch to sock tops | Used in all mock rib socks and sheer hosiery |
